Type

I started creating this typeface by drawing out block letters, quickly yet neatly in order to create an authentic hand drawn look.
Next I used chalk on black card in order to get this effect. I then scanned it in and saved as a patter by going into the EDIT menu and clicking on DEFINE PATTERN.
I selected all the letters first by using the magic wand tool to select the insides of the letters. I used the    add to selection button on the top tool bar, in order to elect all the letters at once.
Next I selected the PATTERN STAMP TOOL and selected the pattern that I had saved. The fact that I had selected the insides of the letters before hand meant that I only filled the insides of the letters and nothing else with this pattern.
 This is the finished typeface.

I was inspired to create this typeface, when I found similar looking typefaces using Pinterest. I used a ruler and freehand, from time to time, to achieve curved edges on some letters. I liked the central part of the letter, where is was just single lined, as thought it added some difference to lettering compared to other typefaces.

To make it different even further, I painted the letters in different colours using water colour, as I thought this would had more appeal to the typeface itself, as they looked brighter and more interesting.

Then to make them seem bolder I went around the shape using a black fine liner.

Emulation

I began my emulation by drawing out different world landmarks. From them I picked three to use for my emulation, which were, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Empire State Buidling and the Golden Gate Bridge, as they were all fairly easy to then outline using the pentool in Adobe Illustrator, which is what you can see above.

After outlining each I then filled them, with different colours for each, in order to recreate those silhouetted shapes found in the copy.

I then repeadted this process with the pen tool with the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Once I had silhoutted each drawing I put them all into a Photoshop document and arranged them in order to make them look appealing and fit together well.
I then produced this tracing of a map of the earth and painted it using watercolour. I thought by adding in a water colour I would be able to make the pice my own and also add in a slightly rustic look, which came slightly into the original, which had a slightly faded background look to it.

I added in the map and then finished off by adding in my intended title for my book cover, using a font that I found on Dafont.com and I thought suited the piece, due to it being a display font and also looking appealing to my target audience of teenagers.

Copy

I created this copy mainly using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator, an example of this being used in my work can be seen below. I drew out the different landmarks and then went around the outline of the landmarks with the pen tool. When I had finished the outline I then added colour to make it a silhouetted image, just like in the original piece. I then placed the image into a Photoshop document and built it up from there.
I began to add other land marks including the a silhouetted image of the houses of parliament.

I then drew a large blue rectangle and placed it behind the landmark shapes. I used the fx tool to add a slight gradient to the shape, which resembled the slight colour change in the background of the original piece. I also used the paint brush tool, to create a cloud, similar to the one in the original. I gently dotted the paintbrush over the top edge of a large block of white I had already done with the paintbrush, in order to get that 'fluffy cloud' effect to the image. I also began to work on the top title, by adding in some embellishments which I had found online, which were similar to the ones which were in the title of the original.

I then used the shape tool, to add some lines behind the embellishments, also similar to the original. Finally I finished it off by added the 'BRITAIN', suing a similar typeface, that I had found on Dafont.com.
This is the original piece.

This is my version of the original.
